Part 10: Getting the New Soil Reinforced
In my previous experience, I’ve mentioned why I decided to look for a new host. Despite the 'super-lame' excuses, it is irritating where the host never apologise to me. Seeing how it is, I also cannot risk this weblog.
I finally moved to a new host; fivio.com, another local hosting company situated in Bukit Lanjan, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. Fivio Enterprise is a sole-proprietary company, which to my source, runs by an individual with help of four partners. Of course, it's a small company and one could be hesitate to hook up with this kind of host but I find the owner; Mr. Fadhlullah Abd Rahman is very responsible and active in webmaster forums. Getting the business running since 2003 is not something ordinary--especially when it comes to the most competitive internet business.
There are two common packages available; "Value Package" and "Premium Package". The Value Package is actually developed to cater student and new comers while the latter is for high end customers such as programmer, web developers, and experience webmasters. Each package comes with not-so-different specifications but for Premium Package, you’ll get multiple backup location, clustered DNS Server and 120 users per server.
They once suffered series of heavy DDoS attacks, a common scenario among web host. I can’t remember the exact date but somewhere in January 2005 and October 2007. Anyway, they managed to overcome the attack and back on track as usual
Like always, I sent them couples of emails (some are very stupid too!) asking about the service. Fivio.com responded really fast--and in professional manner too. Hat’s off to fivio.com. Judging from the website, fivio.com should hire proofreaders as well as content writers to make it more content resourceful and attractive (a common scenario for local company).
There are several plans available and I picked the personal package; "Value Webhosting - Personal" which cost me RM80.00 a year. Quite cheap to be honest. With that price, you’ll get 1GB web space couples with 10GB of bandwidth. Virtually, you’ll get 4GB of data space since they will back-up your data three times a week. I strongly believe, that’s the reason why they don’t implement overselling.
Unlike other local hosts, fivio.com never oversells the packages. You’ll get what you pay. This is a good sign of a healthy business. My advice, avoid overselling web host whenever possible. I was wondering, what happened to icore.com.my customers…
I started the transaction on Saturday night and hoping to jump into the new space by next morning. Well, I have the account ready on Monday--a slight delay here but assuming peoples need to socialize on weekend, this is forgiving (although they should; this is the Internet!). I have the settings done within minutes and redirect my website to temporary mode while waiting the DNS resolves.
My recommendation, go for fivio.com if you are looking for local host. They are good, reliable and come with extra fast customer support. Affiliate program is recently made available for interested webmasters should you need extra bucks. With 40% sales commission is way too lucrative but unfortunately, I’m not into affiliate business. :)
For now, I’m going to stick with fivio.com --or perhaps they are going to be my last local host selected.
