PRU12 Results - A Bright and Gloomy Day

Malaysia electionsToday is March 09, 2008 as history is again carved in Malaysian Book of Records--a defamable defeat of Barisan Nasional since 1969. Never happened before when Barisan National won the General Election with simple majority. I'm not going to rant on the results. You knew it already. In fact, all of Malaysian did. So what next?

Kedah fall to PAS. Perak and Pulau Pinang to DAP while Selangor to PKR. A magnificent strides made by the Opposition. It is no brainer to tell that whatever party with the biggest votes will be declared as the winner--or to be precise, the ruling party. In 1999, these three giants worked together as a team but the pact collapse once PAS declared to establish an Islamic country. I am not against PAS but it was DAP who against PAS (PAS was forced by their followers). Will this happen again--in 2008 and/or in the near future? Will DAP once again separate themselves from PAS/PKR as once they did in 2004?

In the next five years, we will see an interesting collaboration between PAS, PKR and DAP. In fact, Barisan Nasional will watch them as well. Will they form a great government as claimed? If they fail, then this will be the final term for them. I have no doubt of PAS since Kelantan is theirs. How about DAP? Or PKR--the youngest political party to rule a state? Let see how Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Dr. Lim Kit Siang prove their words to the nation. The Malays (PAS) has dropped their Islamic Country agenda. Am I going to see the Chinese (DAP) drop theirs as well? It is a long story to tell.

In multi-racial politics, the system of "give and take" needs to be implemented by the Opposition ('Ruler' if I refer myself as PAS follower and live in Kelantan). Hey, I am not an analysist so I won't produce any. This task is better left to Tuan Guru Nik Aziz, Tuan Guru Hadi Awang, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Lim Kit Siang (or Raja Petra Kamarudin if I may add any).

"Abdullah's landslide win in the 2004 general election has given birth to an arrogance. Never before has the ruling coalition performed that well. Even the great Mahathir was not able to duplicate this. This 92% mandate from the Rakyat is interpreted as a blank cheque with a 'Double Zero' licence, a licence to kill, thrown in. No country gives its government 92% of the seats in Parliament unless the Rakyat believes in it without question and with no conditions attached." - Malaysia-Today

----------

"...the 2008 general election is not about forming the next government. It is about determining whether Abdullah stays in office and who is going to replace him. And Umno too wants Abdullah out. Of course, they do not want Abdullah out because he is weak or corrupt. They want Abdullah out because they know, as long as Abdullah stays on, the future of Umno will be very bleak. It is a matter of personal survival. Abdullah will sink the ship. So Abdullah must be jettisoned just so that the ship does not sink bringing them down with it." - Malaysia-Today

Eventhough I am a big fan of Tuan Guru Nik Aziz and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, I am however, refused to declare that PAS/DAP/PKR finally tore down Barisan Nasional's stronghold in Kedah and Selangor. What happened there is totally different compared to Perak and Pulau Pinang. While the fallen of these two states were due to major swing of Chinese/Indian voters, Kedah and Selangor however, were not in the same league.

This can be witnessed from the total turn-out voters. Why so low? Average of 56% is not something usual. It is absurd...for Kedah and Selangor so to speak. This is an ORGANISED SABOTAGE. A sabotage from the UMNO members themselves. They refuse to vote. They refuse to win on purpose. They refuse to maintain Abdullah's throne. These voter will come out again once Abdullah resign--or been pushed to, and replace with someone else. I dare to say, even the Chinese/Indians will return their favour to Barisan National--just like what happened in 2004.

"The problem is we (the government) have become so arrogant. We suppress any opinion that we do not like and they begin to believe in their own reports which are not actually consistent with what is happening in the country." - Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad

My point of view...YES, the opposition will lose again. Just like today's gigantic winning...that will be a huge losing. Barisan Nasional has started plotting the strategy. They learnt their lesson. They are not going to regain Malay's trust. It's the Chinese and Indians--and that will be easy once Abdullah's out. Give them the economical comfort--and there shall be Opposition no more.

Something interesting needs to look on the Opposition. What's inside my head? Hmm..Just a few. What are the measures taken by PKR/PAS to ensure this will not happen? How are they going to maintain Chinese/Indians support? Will the Chinese and Indians continue to vote for the Opposition once their demands honoured by Barisan Nasional? Go figure.

However, the whole scenario will be different if PAS/DAP/PKR succeed in achieving balance economical and social developments. Until the results proven, time will tell. For the time being, I am watching. It's still blurry ahead.

"...if there are any three-corner fights we must punish BOTH opposition candidates by voting for Barisan Nasional in that particular constituency. This is the era of Peoples' Power. The people must decide, not the political parties. We accept the opposition, but on our terms, not theirs. If they turn their backs on us then we must turn our backs on them as well." - Raja Petra Kamarudin
